Custom Embroidery for Design Style

By news

In our Linen design studio in Great Barrington, our custom embroidery work brings an attractive, tactile and personal experience to our interior design clients–and to us. We take great satisfaction in creating finely embroidered details for table and home.

Our interest in this artful craft began with stitched images of horses, embroidered on hand towels, for our equestrian clients (towels meant to be used, washed and used again, not merely as decorative details). Through the years, we’ve developed a custom-embroidered line of textiles for home and table.

While many people think of custom embroidery as laurel crowns framing a family monogram, that’s rarely what we do. Images from nature and geometric motifs, created with a simple satin stitch, are the creative work that resonates with us.

In combination with Houles or Samuel & Sons trim or banding, you can have a strong design element. Properly curated and edited, these designs are understated and tasteful. There’s nothing quite like an image embroidered into the corner of a Libeco linen top sheet or sham.

And now, we seek out embroidery detail in sourcing many of our upholstery fabrics for our interior design work. Below, a banquette custom designed in our studio and dressed in fabric by Manuel Canovas offers beautiful embroidery detail.

These throw pillows for a client, made in our studio, are enhanced by embroidered stitching detail.

Whether looking for a gift or a striking accent detail for your home, custom embroidery is something special to consider.

Drop by our studio in Great Barrington to explore what we have to offer, from full-service design-build expertise to the details of design that help define your home and work.

Linen and Other Design Adventures

By news

A recent summer day in the Berkshires brought some curious visitors into Linen. Linen, which shares retail space in our Great Barrington interior design studio, is our way of sharing the best linen in the world with people who appreciate the touch and feel of this extraordinary natural fabric. It works in a bedroom, on a dining table, in the bath, or anywhere in the home.

Linen comes from flax, a renewable crop that grows in some of Europe’s low-lying, arable regions. The finest flax and linen — in our humble opinion — comes from from Flanders, where flax has been harvested for linen since 1275.

We source many of our favorite linen products from the Belgian company Libeco. Watch this beautiful (even a little hypnotic!) video showing how the experts grow, harvest and transform flax into Linen.

Here’s our own Linen video — with me talking about linen and some selections in the store. We’ve since moved to our second-floor studio building next door.

Meanwhile, spirit and style are driving some great projects for residential and commercial clients. I’m doing more writing about interior design (check out the “Warmth by Design” article, about great wood stove and fireplace ideas).

Above, we used a client’s favorite pillow fabric as a backsplash, covered by 1/2″ glass. Below, we used wood-style plank floor tile as a horizontal backsplash. Read the full story here.
